Breakfast was amazing – everything was cooked and presented perfectly. We headed back towards St. Mark’s Basilica, and into the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale). Ornate rooms, a military museum and dungeons, where we also found the Bridge of Sighs. Lunch at Birreria Forst, before walking to the fascinating Libreria Acqua Alta book shop.
A walk over to Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo and a climb up the circular tower, before walking back to the hotel, then to the Squero di San Trovaso (gondola boat makers). We wanted to take a trip in a gondola, but this proved a lot harder than we thought. We either couldn’t find a gondola station with waiting gondolier, or they didn’t want to go out because it was raining gently and quite windy on the main canals. As we were giving up and walking back to the hotel, we found one at a small gondola station in one of the main shopping areas, and had a really enjoyable trip with a very talkative and amusing gondolier.
Dinner was a random choice, in what turned out to be a rather overpriced tourist-oriented restaurant.
